About the library
Q When is the library open?
A The library opens at 8.00 am each weekday and
closes at 5.00 pm from Monday to Thursday and 3.15 pm on Friday.

Q Is the library open in the holidays?
A Yes. The library is open for a part
of all holidays. Students will be notified in advance of the dates
and times of opening.
Q Can I come to the library during class time?
A Yes, provided your subject teacher permits and
provides you with a Library Pass.
Q Does the library have a lost and found?
A Yes. Ask for lost items at the Circulation Desk.
Borrowing
Q How many items may I borrow?
A You can borrow up to 10 items at the one time.

Q Do I need to have my ID card when I
want to borrow?
A It is preferred that students carry
their ID card when borrowing. If this is not possible, some other
form of identification will be required.
Q Are there overdue fines?
A No, but further borrowing is denied
until the overdue items are returned.
Q What happens if I lose a book?
A You will need to report the loss to a librarian
and it will be charged to your account.
Q How can I renew a loan?
A Bring the borrowed item to the Circulation Desk.
The Librarian will renew the loan provided no other student has
reserved it. See Library Borrowing Policy for details
Q How can I reserve a book?
A Ask the Librarian at the Circulation Desk to
reserve it for you or reserve on line.
Q Can I borrow magazines?
A Yes. Magazines can be borrowed overnight. Please
ask at the Circulation Desk.
Q Can I borrow videos and DVDs?
A Yes. Videos and DVDs can be borrowed overnight.

Catalogue use
Q Where is the catalogue?
A The catalogue is accessible through
the Library Home Page and can be accessed from any of the computers
in the library. There are also 2 computer terminals dedicated to
accessing the catalogue in the library.
Q Where do I find ... fiction titles, books on specific
subjects?
A You will find this information in the library
catalogue. Select a 'title' search or a 'subject' search.
Photocopying and printing
Q How much does photocopying cost?
A A black and white A4 photocopy costs approximately
8 cents and a colour copy costs 80 cents. You need to use your student card to print or photocopy.
Money can be added to your credit using the Monitor Autoloader machine. Ask a librarian if you need assistance.
Q How do I make an overhead transparency? (B/W & colour)
A Ask a Librarian for assistance. Transparency
sheets cost 30 cents each.
Q Can I make a colour photocopy in the
library?
A Yes. Ask a Librarian for assistance.
Q Can I print in colour?
A No, not in the library. Please enquire
at the Computer Centre.
Library computer use
Q Can I use the library databases from
home?
A Yes. Ask a Librarian for a list of user names and passwords, or
get the list saved on Learning Point.
Q Can I use the library computers to check
my email?
A Yes, at lunch and recess times, before and after
school. See the library policy on use of computers for more details
Q Do the library computers have any word
processing programs?
A Yes. Microsoft Word is installed on every computer.
Q Can I download videos, games and music files?
A No. See the School policy for use of electronic

Finding information and resources
Q How do I find newspaper articles?
A The library keeps The Age, the Herald Sun
, the Financial Review and The Australian for 4 weeks. To find
newspaper articles online, ask a Librarian for assistance.
Q Is there anywhere I can get help for my research assignment?
A Yes. A librarian will be able to assist you at
any time. Check if there is a pathfinder prepared for your assignment
topic.
Q Can you recommend a good book to read?
A Yes. Check the library's Fiction Lists, choose
from the Student Reviews or ask a librarian for a recommendation.
