Notebook Computer Usage Policy


Via the School's network

The School's network is provided as an educational and communication resource.
Computer games may not be downloaded from the network nor played across the network at any time
MP3 files or other applications may not be downloaded from the network without prior written permission from the Computer Centre
Inappropriate and offensive material may not be downloaded
Students may read email addressed to them and send email subject to any school harassment policies or legal considerations
No software, applications or files may be distributed via the school's network unless prior written permission has been obtained from the Computer Centre.
General usage

Notebook computers are brought to school essentially as an educational tool

Games, movies and music:

may be played on students' own computers (no network connection) before school, at lunchtime and after school.
may not be played on any computer during class time, study periods, free periods, assembly or tutor group meetings.

Headphones:
may be used before school, at lunchtime and after school
may not be used during class time, study periods or free periods.
Inappropriate Usage

In the event of suspected inappropriate use, notebook computers in the possession of students at school, may be examined by teachers and teaching assistants for the sake of determining appropriate use, hence:
Teachers and teaching assistants may require:

a student to cease use of any computer at any time
a student to disconnect from the school's network
the temporary removal of a computer from the possession of the student
In the event of inappropriate material being found on a hard disk the school has the right to remove such material.

In the event of inappropriate use of the school network, usage may be withdrawn
