‘Alive’ by Piers Paul Read
I enjoyed it quite a bit, but i think there was too many characters to remember. I think the author should have explained each character more to give a clear picture in the reader’s mind of what each character looked like and what characteristics they have. Half the time i didn’t know who the character was: Parrado, Canessa, Francois, Inciarti, Turcatti etc etc. TOO MANY PEOPLE TO REMEMBER!!! I also think the front cover gave too much away, ‘Alive’ that one word plus the subtitle and the picture on the cover practically tells the story. The cover tells you there was a plane crash, the subtitle says that the plane crashed in the Andes, and the title plus the end of the subtitle tells you that they survived. I know this is non-fictional, but no book should give that much away on the front cover. It makes the book less exciting because when there is a part in the book when all seems lost and everybody will die of starvation, you know they will get through it because the front cover says they survive! Also, if you’re totally anti-christ, then you will hate this book. I’m telling you there is something to do with God in every second sentence. The story is all about a group of christian Uruguayan rugby players who are travelling to Chile, when they crash in the Andes mountains. Somehow they survive the crash and they survive in the extreme conditions for about 70 days! They all believe that God will save them etc etc.
Overall it is a good book but it had some flaws.
