John Marsden

John Marsden
John Marsden has written or edited 33 books, ranging from the little known 'Out of Time' to the well known 'Tomorrow, When the War Began'. His 2003 release is 'While I Live', which further explores the lives of Ellie Linton and her friends from the Tomorrow Series. When John is not writing he takes courses, camps and workshops for adults and young people at his property, the Tye Estate, near Hanging Rock.

Keynote - Talk: Using words the way Crusty Demons use motocross bikes (Yr 7, Yr 8)

Workshop - Breathing life into writing (Yr 7, Yr 8)
John will be speaking about language, its power and meaning in our lives. Language is the most important tool we have, and used effectively, it can open many doors. Every time we speak we convey a sense of ourselves to others, unless we have developed such highly effective defences that this is no longer the case - and paradoxically, this too conveys a sense of our identities to others!
In real life, so too in fiction. The way characters use language in books (their 'voices') is a highly effective method for a writer to give information about them to readers.
