Dr. Mark Collins
Dr Mark Collins is mad enough to have written five English text books and run seminars for
English teachers across Victoria and Australia in his holidays. He has recently completed a series of twenty 15
minute Podcast talks on classics of world literature.
His talks are designed
to be thought-provoking and applicable to exam preparation.
Hamlet: why is the death of Polonius the turning point?
(Year 12)
The death of Polonius unravels two families and consequently the regime. Students will be challenged to briefly respond to specific parts of the text (please bring your copy) and take notes on this key turning point by exploring the 'death' responses of Claudius, Gertrude, Hamlet, Ophelia and Laertes.
King Lear: Cordelia's response to 'love' and rejection
(Year 11 & year 12)
Cordelia says little but her presence and speech bear much weight in this relentlessly ironic drama. Year 11 & 12 Literature students will be challenged to briefly respond to specific parts of the text (please bring your copy) and take notes on this provocative and poignant female character.
