Figures in a landscape: The stories of Tobias Wolff
(Year 12)
Tobias Wolff's short stories are humorous, astute and insightful portraits of individuals trying very hard to grasp a modern world that is threatening, confronting and complex. His characters are either constricted by an inability to articulate their feelings or unable to see how they are partially responsible for their plight. Whilst darkness and gloom do exist, Wolff is an optimist providing his characters with hope and the possibility of redemption.
