The Goldfinch

The Goldfinch

By Donna Tartt

“ Set largely in New York, in the dusty, dubious, drug-infused world of art and antiques, this is a crime-mystery, a love story, and above all a coming of age story ”

The strength of this novel is the intimacy it allows us with Theo - only 13 years old when we meet him, but in his twenties by end of the sprawling, engaging, suspenseful mass of the book. Set largely in New York, in the dusty, dubious, drug-infused world of art and antiques, this is a crime-mystery, a love story, and above all a coming of age story about a boy who loses his mother, steals a priceless painting and struggles with unrequited love. Don't ruin this book by reading it in little morsels - savour its riches when you have the time it deserves.
