PD Program for Scotch College Staff
A series of workshops is available for either groups or individuals
or at other times on request. These sessions may take place on Fridays
from 3.00 - 4.30.
1. Evaluating Internet Resources
This session will enable you to:
- Understand Internet addresses eg. domain names, country codes
etc.
- Develop criteria which will assist in your evaluation and selection
of information for particular purposes
- Utilise advanced search strategies
2. What we can do with the Internet
We all know we should use the Internet, but what sort of activities
can be developed and how do they fit into the curriculum?
This session will enable you to:
- Plan different types of activities
- The advantages and disadvantages of each
- Suggestions for incorporation into the curriculum and classroom
management techniques

3. Incorporating Information Literacy into the curriculum
- setting research tasks that avoid plagiarism
This session will enable you to:
- Design a number of effective learning experiences that will
enhance students' independent learning
- Devise units of work that eliminate the likelihood of plagiarism
- Come to a deeper understanding of Information Literacy issues
- Know which research questions encourage deeper thinking
- Remodel existing assignments to fit the research cycle

4. Computers in the Classroom
Are you tired of just using computers for word processing or the
Internet? This session will give you some ideas for using computers
in different ways to inspire and interest your students.
This session will enable you to:
- Develop different types of activities for use in the classroom
- Explore the capabilities of our standard software packages
- Integrate computers into your teaching in a relevant and positive
manner
