Mark Nicholls

Dr Mark Nicholls
Dr Mark Nicholls is Lecturer in Cinema Studies in the School of Fine Arts, Classical Studies and Archeology at the University of Melbourne. He lectures in the Screen Education Program at Cinemedia and is a regular film reviewer and panel guest on local and national ABC Radio.

Workshop title: Film and Media (Yr 11+12)
From The Great Gatsby to Bridget Jones' Diary, literary texts have been yoked to film texts in a love-hate marriage since the cinema began. Using film extracts from some key literary adaptations, this lecture gives an introduction to reading film texts and argues the case that the most successful adaptations are those which eschew common understandings of "fidelity" to the original text.

Session Details: Year 11 + 12
