Elizabeth Finkel
Elizabeth Finkel
Elizabeth Finkel spent 10 years as a research scientist before switching careers to science writing. She published her first book, Stem Cells in April of 2005. Prior to that she was a freelance science writer. She has written for The Age and recorded for ABC radio's Science Show, Ockhams Razor and the Health report. She has also been a correspondent for international scientific and medical journals like Science, Nature Medicine, and the Lancet.
Stem cells (Yr 12 masterclass)
It's not often that the public gets to have a say in the direction that science will go. But in August of 2002, as Australia's politicians debated the embryo research and cloning bills, it was very much up to the public to decide on whether the research should go ahead. What started off as a sophisticated debate descended into confusion and deliberate distortion by those who opposed the research. These distortions, and the public's difficulties in understanding the scientific and ethical issues were the trigger that compelled Elizabeth Finkel to write her book.
