Hamlet's Torment (Yr 12 masterclass)
Hamlet's infamous hesitation drives both the plot of the play and engages our interest in the character. The text provides a number of possibilities early on which hint as to why Hamlet can not ruthlessly kill Claudius. The early scenes in which we hear Hamlet's gloomy view of the world, the exchange with the Ghost and his early soliloquies provide ample evidence to unlock the complex 'mystery' that is Hamlet's character.
