Catherine Bateson

Catherine Bateson
Catherine Bateson grew up in a second hand bookshop in Brisbane - a great childhood for a writer! After producing two collections of poetry, she combined her love for poetic form and narrative and wrote two verse novels for young adults. Her third book which is to be published soon is a novel in prose.

Workshop title: "Over the top odes to ordinary objects" (Yr 11,12)
Explore the "crowded toolbox" of poetic technique in this hands-on writing workshop. We'll look at some odes to ordinary objects and then, with the help of word tickets, write our own odes, transforming our everyday world into a riot of metaphor, symbol and hyperbole.
"Odes/of all/hues and sizes,/seraphic, blue/or violet,/to eat,/to dance, to follow footprints in the sand" Odes to everything by Pablo Neruda
